2026 Azrieli Music Prize

Dalit Hadass Warshaw was named a Laureate of the 2026 Azrieli Music Prize, one of the most significant international competitions for composition, receiving the Azrieli Commission for Jewish Music. Her proposed work Letter From Across the River is inspired by the true story of her great-grandfather in war-torn Poland, who braved wintry waters to send a last letter to his sons.

BMOP Recording

Dalit Hadass Warshaw’s new orchestral portrait album, “Sirens,” is hot off the press on BMOP/sound! Released on April 25, 2025, this eagerly-anticipated disc features new recordings of Warshaw’s Sirens: A Concerto for Theremin and Orchestra, along with Camille’s Dance and Responses. All works are performed by the Boston Modern Orchestra Project, led by Artistic Director Gil Rose, with Carolina Eyck as the theremin soloist.

“…haunting, subtle, and thoroughly well-crafted music…This is easily among the best major works written for the theremin.”

American Record Guide

Sept.-Oct. 2025

“Thoroughly absorbing, they are complex, colorful, gratifyingly theatrical…Warshaw’s music is as weird and wonderful as you might hope…”

Musical America Worldwide

Clive Paget - 2025 Aug. 14

“…orchestral writing that embraces everything from the subtle and glistening to a voluptuousness that likely would tickle Richard Strauss and Maurice Ravel (one of Warshaw’s heroes).”

Gramophone

Donald Rosenberg - 2025 August

★★★★

“…a very engaging listen, in an otherworldly yet somehow sensuous way.”

BBC Music Magazine

Jeremy Pound - 2025 July

“… a multi-threat artist [who] has created a distinguished career…Stirring… abundant vitality and craft…”

Sequenza 21

Christian Carey - 2025 June 16

“…both eerily lyrical and harmonically knotty, chromatic and challenging without being forbidding…Recommended to all contemporary music collections.”

CD HotList

Rick Anderson - 2025 June 2

Phenomenal! The greatest theremin concerto ever written”

Ultimate Classical Music Guide

Dave Hurwitz - 2025 May 15

“There are worse things than premature applause.”

Hamburger Abendblatt (Hamburg Evening Paper)

Joachim Mischke - 2025 Feb. 17

“…the Elbphilharmonie Visions festival throws the spotlight exclusively on contemporary music…[with] a unique chance to engage directly with the composers…”

Elbphilharmonie Mediatheque

2025 Feb. 16

“An electronic interloper – the theremin — boldly joined the Albany Symphony Orchestra on Saturday night at the Palace Theater…Dalit Warshaw’s concerto ‘Sirens’ was a subtle and sophisticated showcase for the instrument.”

The Times Union

Joseph Dalton - 2019 Nov. 6

“…Boston Modern Orchestra Project and thereminist Carolina Eyck treated the audience to…the world premiere of Dalit Warshaw’s ‘Sirens,’ a sublimely expressive concerto…”

The Boston Globe

Zoë Madonna - 2019 Oct. 5

“Warshaw did a brilliant job blending the various orchestral instruments’ colors with the theremin’s haunting, eerie, almost swoon-like sounds.”

The Daily Gazette

Geraldine Freedman

“A graceful and sensitive pianist, Warshaw is an intriguing orchestrator who draws a wealth of colors from an ensemble.”

The Grand Rapids Press

Jeffrey Kaczmarczyk - 2015 Jan. 31

She played with unassuming grace, and the voice of the theremin mixed nicely with the other instruments.”

San Francisco Chronicle

Jon Carroll - 2013 June 25

“…This is a very special CD…I highly recommend it…as a wonderful introduction to a new and unusual compositional voice.”

Fanfare

May/June 2013

“It is a great piece and was well played…It was spectacular to watch Warshaw perform…fascinating to watch, and a great feat of precision.”

Boston Music Intelligencer

David Griesinger - 2012 Mar. 4

“ … soloist Dalit Warshaw was mesmerizing to watch…Though the thereminist doesn’t actually touch her instrument, she must deploy an intense physicality to shape its sounds…”

Miss Music Nerd

Linda Kernohan - 2012 Feb. 9

“Schneider was following a tough act: theremin soloist Dalit Warshaw…Warshaw’s poker-faced manipulation of [the theremin] was a work of performance art.”

The Boston Globe

Harlow Robinson - 2012 Jan. 30

“…the performance was, on the whole, superb. Dalit Warshaw, composer and thereminist-extraordinaire, took on the lyrical solo part. She brought a very nice shape to Air’s opening and closing sections and seemed to have a lot of fun with its involved cadenza.”

Artsfuse

Jonathan Blumhofer - 2012 Jan. 29

“Dalit Hadass Warshaw’s 2006 Elegy on a Theme of Sappho, a charged work sporting long tones and occasional dissonant harmonies that reflected the sense of loss pervading the poem that inspired it…”

Oregon Arts Watch

Brett Campbell - 2012 Jan. 29

“Expertly controlling her instrument, Warshaw played it straight throughout—so straight, in fact, that her expressionless face, turned full to the audience, became part of the weirdness of it all.”

Boston Classical Review

David Wright - 2011 Feb. 22

“The music on her new CD, Invocations (Albany Records), is brainy and surprising, bristling with dissonance one moment and purring lyrically along the next.

Tablet Magazine

Alexander Gelfand - 2011 Mar. 24

“So an unassuming listener to Invocations…is in for a wonderful shock; the kind of shock that 21st-century new music seems to do better than music from any other era.”

New Music Box

Frank Oteri - 2011 Feb. 22

“[Dalit Warshaw is a] graceful and sensitive pianist…[and] an intriguing orchestrator who draws a wealth of colors from an ensemble.”
